Akua Tu is a singer, songwriter and self-taught guitarist. “Ethereal Soul, is the vibe with this unique singer-songwriter” Neil March, Trust The Doc (Edition 30, 16th July 2019). She has used her experience as a session singer to carve out her own unique sound that she calls Ethereal Soul.
Focusing purely on her song-writing, a new 7 Track E.P. is now in the pipeline. From “There’s no need to rush because you’ll get there in the end” taken from “King of My Castle, a laid back Neo-Soul love song, to “Stay Looking Forward” which is an up-tempo Acid Jazz style Soul track encouraging a positive mindset. “I’m” is a song addressing doubt and self-belief to “I asked the wise Maasai on the plains” taken from her Jazzy upbeat track “Where Are You”. With her favourite artist in mind, Carleen Anderson, “Sun Is In My Eyes”, takes you on unexpected thought journeys.
Starting in the school choir at 8 years old, Akua Tu found herself on stage in one of the biggest cultural music halls in Germany. Her love of Jazz, Soul, Gospel, RnB, Reggae and Ghanian Hi-life started from her dad’s eclectic collection of vynl records.
Akua Tu has worked as a background vocalist for a 16 piece African Jazz band, graced the stage with The Sounds of Blackness and Levine Hudson as part of the background vocals for an gospel band who were eventually signed to a major record label, the lead singer of an RnB Trio taking part in a live-streamed competition hosted by Trevor Nelson at the prestigious Maida Vale Studios in London to working with Metalheadz Drum and Bass DJ Peshay and the musical director for Terry Callier, Chris Kibble.
Akua Tu’s previous self-released album Introspection was positively received by music industry panels and her lyrics are especially thought-provoking.
So keep your ears to the ground and listen out for fresh new acoustic guitar driven tracks from this Ethereal Soul Singer, Akua Tu.
Love and Peace x
